Price range: $175.00 through $375.00

Wiliwili, Erythrina sandwicensis, is a species of flowering tree in the pea family, Fabaceae, endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. It is the only species of Erythrina that naturally occurs here. This tree is typically found in Hawaiian tropical dry forests on leeward island slopes up to an elevation of 2,000 ft. Wiliwili means “repeatedly twisted” in the Hawaiian language and refers to the seedpods, which dehisce, or twist open, to reveal its seeds. Hawaiian legend has it that when the Wili Wili tree blooms, the shark bites. The image was taken at 4:00 in the morning as the full moon was setting.
