Waipio River Reflections
$175.00 – $275.00
In the Hawaiian languageWaipi’o translates to “curved water”. The Waipi’o River flows through the valley until it enters the ocean at the beach.
The valley is often referred to as the “Valley of the Kings” because it was once home to many of the rulers of Hawaii and, as a result, the valley has both historical and cultural importance to the Hawaiian people.
According to oral histories as many as 10,000 people may have lived in the valley during the times before the arrival of Captain Cook in 1778. At that time, Waipi’o was the most fertile and productive valley on the Hawaii Island .
Today the valley is home to a small number of Taro farmers and fishermen. The land beyond the high water mark of the beach is private property and visitors are asked not to trespass.
