Mauna Kea is a 13,716 high mountain and the weather can change rapidly, resulting in severe conditions, even at lower elevations. These conditions including freezing temperatures, snow storms and high winds. When conditions are calm, the is an almost always an inversion layer along the Hilo side of the mountain creating and ever changing photo opportunities.
